Events and Prompts

Warhammer Total War Events

1. Chaos Invasion
Write a two hundred word event description for the wholesale invasion of the Old World by the forces of Chaos.

The Old World is facing its darkest hour, as the forces of Chaos, led by the dreaded Archaon, descend upon the land in a massive and brutal invasion. Agents of the Ruinous Powers whisper sweet promises of strength and glory to those who would listen, while hordes of bloodthirsty warriors, daemons and twisted monstrosities pour in from he Northern Wastes, driven by an insatiable hunger for death and destruction.

No army is safe from their wrath, and even the bravest of soldiers falter in the face of such overwhelming evil. The stench of corruption trails before their armies like a harbinger of doom, and entire cities crumble beneath the weight of Chaos' might.

Yet even in the midst of this darkness, a glimmer of hope remains. For the armies of the Old World are determined to stand their ground and defend their homeland at any cost. The battle lines are drawn and the fate of the Old World hangs in a delicate balance. Will the legions of Chaos succeed in their quest, plunging the world into eternal darkness? Or will the armies of the Old World prevail to restore order to their world. Only time will tell.

2. In-Game Incidents and Dilemmas
Write an in-game standalone incident and one in-game dilemma (complete with options and results), concerning any factions and circumstances.

Incident
Incident title: Cursed Cargo
Faction: Vampire Coast

Our latest plunder was a thing of true wonder, an ornate artefact engraved with strange symbols that seemed to drive our boys into a mad frenzy. Its power is slowly waning, though the effect it has had on the local populace is undeniable. They cower in fear and awe, their minds uneasy with the knowledge that such a thing exists in our world.

Effects:
Public order: -3 (local province)
Melee attack: +10 (Lord’s army)
Range attack: +10 (Lord’s army)
Duration : 4 turns

Dilemma Name : The Ancient Oath
Faction: Dwarves

Requirements:
Player is a Dwarf racial faction
There is at least one other Dwarf racial faction in the game

A long-forgotten oath to a fellow Dwarf clan has been uncovered, and it demands a hefty tribute of resources and warriors. The weight of history hangs heavily in the air, for this oath was sworn in a time of peace and cooperation by your ancestors.

Option 1: Honour your ancestor’s Oath
Duty and honour have united the Dawi clans for centuries, and the sanctity of an Oath must be upheld, no matter how ancient.
Effects:
Diplomatic Relations: +10 with the Dwarven Faction
Oathgold: -3000
Recruitment cost: +30% for all armies (3 turns)

Option 2: The Oath is outdated, pay no heed to it!
The oath is outdated and irrelevant in the face of the current threats that infringe upon your empire. Your sworn duty to protect your lands and people is far more important than any ancient oath.
Effects:
Diplomatic Relations: -15 with the Dwarven Faction
Public Order: -3 (All Provinces) (3 turns)

Warhammer Total War Thematic Diplomacy Lines

1. Write brief diplomacy messages for the following circumstances:

a) Kislev addressing Chaos Dwarfs on good terms:

i. Suggest Trade Agreement.

Honoured Chaos Dwarfs, the harshness of our lands demand strong allies. Let us forge a bond through trade and prosper together.

ii. Propose Military Alliance.
Kislev and the Chaos Dwarfs. Ice and fire - A formidable alliance. Will you stand with us?

iii. Request Break Trade Agreement with the High Elves.
The High Elves are untrustworthy partners for the Dawi-Zharr. It would be wise to reconsider your trade relations.

b) Slaanesh addressing the Lizardmen in hostile terms:

i. Suggest Trade Agreement.

The cold-blooded ways of the Lizardmen can be so... dull. We can offer you true riches and excess beyond your wildest dreams.

ii. Propose Military Alliance.
Your primitive ways bore me. Join me in battle and savour the ecstasy of slaughter and depravity.

iii. Request Break Trade Agreement with Ogre Kingdoms.
Your taste in partners is as disappointing as the gods you worship. Cease your trade with the Ogre Kingdoms and seek out pleasure elsewhere.

c) Chaos Dwarfs addressing Tzeentch in neutral terms:

i. Declare War.

Scheme all you want Tzeentch, the fire consumes all.

ii. Request Money.
We require funds to fuel our forges. Share your wealth with us, oh Lord of Change.

iii. Request Territory.
Chaos flows through our veins and our ambitions require more land. Will you cede some to us, Weaver of Fates?

d) Dark Elves addressing Nurgle on friendly terms:

i. Suggest Trade Agreement.
Your plagues and our poisons would create a trade partnership like no other, Nurgle.

ii. Propose Military Alliance.
We share a mastery over death and despair. Perhaps we should join forces, and conquer our foes as one.

iii. Request Break Trade Agreement with Marienburg.
Marienburg is not worthy of your trade, oh Lord of Pestilence. It would be wise to end your dealings with them.

Historical Total War Events

1. Short Events
Write short messages for the following in-game events (max 50 words) :

a) Earthquake [in city X] [in an early medieval-era game].

The ground trembles violently as an earthquake rocks the city. Buildings sway and crumble as terrified citizens cry out to the heavens for help, desperate to be spared from harm. Was this disaster a sign of divine wrath at your nation’s sins and your leadership?

b) Player’s spy discovered [in a 18th century-era game].

Your spy's carelessness has cost you dearly. News reaches you, that your agent's identity has been discovered, and the faction they were spying on is now wary of your intentions.Your reputation is in shambles and your agent's life is at risk.

c) Major faction [X] destroyed [not by player] [in a Greek-era game].

The gods have cast their judgement upon this nation, and their legacy is now in tatters by the machinations of their enemies. Their destruction is a stark reminder that even the mightiest can be brought to their knees. Learn from their mistakes, lest you suffer a similar fate.

d) Player’s faction leader [X] dies of old age [in a late medieval-era game].

Our noble leader has passed on, leaving a legacy of honour, virtue and piousness. As we mourn his loss, we face an uncertain future without his wisdom and guidance. Our people gather to pray for his spirit, and for his successors to find the strength to continue his legacy.

2.In-Game Incidents
Write an incident (up to 50~ words) outlining the following:

a) The death of a most-hated foe in the Chinese Three Kingdoms era.

Great tidings, my lord! Our most hated foe has met their end! His followers cower in fear and despair, while our people rejoice at the death of this tyrant. Let us raise our banners high in celebration, for you are now one step closer to unifying China under your rule.

b) The birth of a new son – an heir - to the royal family in Medieval Britain.

Joyous cheers echo throughout the realm as news spreads that a royal heir has been born. With the arrival of this child, the future of our kingdom shines brighter than ever before, for he will one day carry the weight of the crown and lead our people to greatness!

c) The rise of a power rivalling your own and threatening your interests in the
Age of Sail.

A new power arises to rival our own, posing a threat to our interests. Our soldiers must remain vigilant and our ships ready, for the winds of change are blowing, and we must adapt to remain at the forefront of this new era of exploration and conquest.

Warhammer Total War Historical Diplomacy Lines

1. Write brief diplomacy messages for the following circumstances:

a) The Republic of Genoa addressing Denmark:

i. Suggest Trade Agreement.

As maritime nations we have much to offer each other in trade. A closer partnership would bring prosperity and benefit our people.

ii. Propose Military Alliance.
The Republic of Genoa and Denmark have long been bastions of maritime security. Let us unite our armies and navies in the face of emerging threats.

iii. Propose peace (currently at war).
This mindless bloodshed between our nations has lasted for far too long. Let us put aside our grievances, and work towards cooperation and peace.

b) Liu Bei addressing Dong Zhuo in hostile terms:

i. Receiving player proposal (Their opening statement: a “welcome” message as opposed to a response to Liu Bei’s proposal).

Speak swiftly Dong Zhou, for my patience is wearing thin.

ii. Demanding money.
Dong Zhou, we demand payment. Failure to comply will not be in your best interests.

iii. Demanding territory.
We have been patient for far too long. Surrender this land that is ours by right, or face our wrath.

c) The (19th century) British Empire addressing France:

i. Rejecting player’s demand for money.

An absurd request. It seems the French have once again overestimated their negotiating position.

ii. Accepting the player's peace proposal.
Our nations have had a long and tumultuous history, but we are willing to put aside our differences and embrace peace.

iii. Declaring war.
The time for diplomacy has passed. We shall meet on the battlefield, and continue the legacy of Agincourt and Crecy.
